SB 651 -- OFFICIAL STATE GRAPE
SPONSOR: Steelman (Townley)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Agriculture by a vote of 19 to 0.
This bill establishes the Norton/Cynthiana grape as the official
grape of the State of Missouri.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the Norton grape is extremely
valuable to Missouri's wine industry and saved the French wine
industry. It is native to Missouri and weather tolerant.
Testifying for the bill were Senator Steelman; and Tim Puchta,
Puchta Winery.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
